Photography is an art that thrives on creativity and experimentation. One such technique that offers endless possibilities is long exposure photography. Recently, I had a little fun with this technique with my Nikon Z7, and the results were nothing short of breathtaking.

Long exposure photography involves using a long-duration shutter speed to sharply capture the stationary elements of images while blurring, smearing, or obscuring its moving parts. The resultant images are enchanting, with a dreamy, surreal quality to them. The #nikonz7, with its excellent low-light performance and vast dynamic range, proved to be an ideal tool for exploring this technique.

One of the subjects I chose for my long exposure experiment was the iconic #dcmonuments. The majestic monuments, coupled with the dynamic hustle and bustle of the city, provided an exciting contrast. As the shutter of my Nikon Z7 remained open, the moving people, clouds, and water bodies turned into beautifully blurred elements, allowing the stationary monuments to assert their dominance in the frame.

The fun part of long exposure photography is the element of unpredictability. As the shutter remains open for an extended period, even slight changes in the scene can result in major differences in the final image. This adds a certain thrill to the process, as you never know exactly what you're going to get.

Second, use a remote shutter release or the camera's self-timer to avoid shaking the camera when pressing the shutter button. Every year, as the seasons change, a spectacular event unfolds in the heartland of Africa. A phenomenon so immense, it is regarded as one of the most awe-inspiring natural events on Earth: The Great Wildebeest Migration. Imagine, if you will, the crackling dawn of an African morning. The sun is a lazy red, half-hidden behind the searing horizon. The air is crisp and fresh, punctuated by the distant calls of exotic birds. Suddenly, the tranquility shatters. The ground trembles with a steady rhythm growing louder, like the beat of an enormous drum. A cloud of dust rises in the distance, growing larger and larger until it blankets the entire horizon. Then you see them - hundreds, thousands, an ocean of bodies and hooves, as the great wildebeest herds of Africa begin their epic journey. These magnificent creatures, with their shaggy manes and sharp, curving horns, are driven by an ancient rhythm - the promise of lush, green pastures and a chance to continue their line. The wildebeest, typically around 1.5 million in number, along with hundreds of thousands of gazelles and zebras, traverse the arid plains of the Serengeti in Tanzania to the lush, green grasslands of the Maasai Mara in Kenya. This incredible journey covers a staggering distance of around 800 kilometres, a perilous trek fraught with danger. The wildebeest must evade predators such as lions and hyenas, endure the scorching African sun, and cross treacherous rivers teeming with crocodiles. It's a journey of survival, a testament to the indomitable spirit of these creatures. Their journey is not a straight shot. The Wildebeest Migration is a circular grazing path determined by the availability of food. Nature doesn&rsquo;t offer them any maps or GPS, they are guided by the rains and with that, the growth of new grass. This incredible instinct to move is so strong that not even a river teeming with hungry crocodiles can stop them. The Great Wildebeest Migration is more than just a display of natural instinct and determination. It is a grand spectacle, a dance of life and death under the vast African sky. It is a testament to the raw, unfiltered power of nature, and a reminder of the delicate balance that all life hinges upon. So, whether you're a wildlife enthusiast, a budding photographer or simply someone who appreciates the profound beauty of nature, the Great Wildebeest Migration is a sight to behold. It's a reminder of our planet's wild and untamed majesty, and an event that truly deserves its place on the bucket list of every intrepid explorer.
